Double Deep Pallet Racking and Selective Pallet Racking: Which Is Ideal for Your Warehouse?

Warehouse storage systems play a crucial role in the efficiency and productivity of any business that relies on goods storage and handling. In this article, we will compare double deep pallet racking and selective pallet racking, two common types of storage systems used in warehouses.

Whether you are setting up a new warehouse or looking to optimize your existing storage space, we will provide valuable insights to help you make the best choice for your business.

What Is Double Deep Pallet Racking & How Does It Work?

Double deep pallet racking is a storage system that allows two rows of pallets to be stored back-to-back. It is ideal for businesses with high volumes and limited space, as it maximizes the available storage area within a warehouse or other facility.

Some of the important things you should know about the double pallet racking system is that it works by positioning two single-deep racks side-by-side and then placing a second row of pallets directly behind the first row. The front row can be accessed from either aisle, allowing for greater flexibility when it comes to storing goods.

What Is Selective Pallet Racking & How Does It Work?

Selective pallet racking is a storage system used in warehouses to allow for easy inventory management and direct access to stored items. It is made up of upright frames connected by horizontal beams, and features wire mesh decks and safety cross bars to prevent damage, tampering, or accidental disconnection.

There are two types of selective pallet racking: roll formed steel and structural steel. The roll formed steel version can also come in a bolted configuration, which provides increased strength through the use of bolted braces. It allows for efficient storage and retrieval of goods from multiple levels within the facility.

When Should You Choose Double-Deep & Selective Pallet Racking?

Double-deep pallet racking is best for warehouses that have a large quantity of the same type of product and need to maximize storage density. Double-deep racking can be accessed using a reach truck with extended reach capabilities.

On the other hand, selective pallet racking is a good choice for warehouses that need to store a variety of products and require easy access to individual pallets. This system is made up of upright frames and horizontal beams and allows for the placement of pallets on multiple levels.

Which Is Ideal for Your Warehouse?

Overall, both double deep pallet racking and selective pallet racking are strong and durable storage systems that can provide reliable support for pallets in a warehouse setting. The choice of which system to use will depend on the specific needs and requirements of the warehouse, including the weight and size of the pallets being stored, the available warehouse space, and the desired level of flexibility and adaptability.
